Fifty years ago, a group of important men sat around a table in Rome and decided to begin something special: a series of treaties ensued, joining Europe together in a peaceful, democratic and economic Union to ensure future cooperation and not conflict. But tying together parts of their economies, such as coal, steel and energy, the countries involved had vested interests in the future peace and stability of Europe. |
